Against walnut, the soft blue-grey reads less sweet, more deliberate. The old paper tone warms up the wood rather than fighting it, and the bird’s sharp downward angle gives a still corner something to look at. Rooms that already lean quiet gain a bit of character without gaining noise. Hang it at eye level above a desk, a chest of drawers or along a hallway where people pass close enough to see the fine engraved lines. Pair it with aged leather, wool, stoneware and old books, and keep the wall colour soft: off-white, warm putty or a deep green all work. What not to do: crowd it with glossy, high-colour modern graphics, which flatten the delicate linework and make the aged paper look grubby.
