At 4pm, the fish study turns from nice idea to main character. The light drops, the olive green along its back deepens, and the silver belly picks up whatever daylight is left in the room. Put it up and a plain wall suddenly has a subject. The off-white background does the heavy lifting, so it never crowds a small space. Hang it at eye level in a hallway, above a low sideboard, or on a study wall where you actually sit near it. Pair it with painted panelling, aged leather, linen, oak or darker stained wood, and a little pewter or stoneware. Avoid crowding it with loud pattern or bright primaries this one wants quiet neighbours. As a canvas the surface is matt, so there’s no glare from a window or lamp.
