Open the curtains at mid-morning; the blue will handle the drama. Everything else here is quiet soft grey, dusty pink, sandy tan, a little olive so that single strip of sea does all the work. Put it up and a flat wall suddenly has depth and structure without any noise. It sits well above a low sideboard, a bench in a hallway, or behind a desk where you look up often. Pair it with pale plaster walls, oak or ash wood, linen seating and plain stoneware. Keep busy patterned pieces away from it; the block shapes need a little air either side to read properly. On fine-art paper the pencil-like texture in each block stays crisp.
