No, the deep red doesn’t soften the room. It defines it. This is a vintage Japanese woodblock scene small seated figures, birds in flight, all set against a rich red ground with a block of soft orange behind them.

Put it up and the room slows down. The red holds the wall on its own, while the cream figures and faded greens give the eye somewhere quiet to land. Lamps love it. Daylight is kinder to it than you’d expect.
