Once the warm orange enters, the whole room stops apologising. A plain wall goes from blank to friendly, and the whole corner picks up a bit of seasonal warmth without turning into a Halloween display. Hang it in a kitchen beside the door, on a hallway wall where nothing much happens, or over a low chest of drawers in a child’s room. It sits happily with pale wood, painted cupboards, cream tiles and simple linen. Keep the surrounding surfaces calm a couple of stoneware pots or a small vase is plenty. What not to do: crowd it with novelty seasonal props, cobwebs and glitter pumpkins. The illustration already does the autumn part. On fine-art paper the soft grainy texture and clean off-white background stay quiet and crisp.
