There’s a reason painters kept returning to the Mediterranean courtyard; rooms still respond. Put this up and a flat, quiet wall suddenly has weather in it sea blue, coral, mustard and soft pink doing the work that a bunch of flowers usually has to do. It earns its keep in a kitchen, a dining room or a hallway that gets a bit of afternoon light. Keep the furnishings simple around it: painted timber, cane, terracotta pots, plain cotton.
